This is a a short video on a voluminous and intriguing topic on wine---Croatia has a long linage and is pivotal in it's wine heritage and provinenace. Croatia has been producing wine for at least 2,500 yard on the coastal side --the Dalmatian islands. The ancient Greeks and Romans bring wine grapes - vitis vinifera. A lot has happened in two and half millennia in Croatia---empires have criss crossed and have gone--what has remained constand is the land and the wine. Croatia has two distinct climate points; 1. continental - inland 2. coastal - Adriatic Seven Wine regions in continental Croatia are: 1. Moslavina 2. Plešivica 3. Podunavlje 4. Pokuplje 5. Prigorije-Bilogora 6. Slavonia 7. Zagorje-Međimurje Five Coastal Croatia wine areas: 1. Istria 2. Croatian Coast 3. Northern Dalmatia 4. Dalmatian Inteior 5. South and Central Dalmatia Native grapes include: Plavac Mali (kinship to Crlejanic Kastlanski and Dobrcic), Posip, Debit, Babic, Dobričić, Hrvatica, Plavinia and of course you have a plethora of International and reginal varietials: Merlot, CS, Nebbiolo, Zweigelt, CF, Frankovka (Blaufrankish), Pinot Sivi (Pinot Gris) Pinot Bijeli (Pinot Blanc) There are three quality levels: 1. Premium, Vrhunsko 2. Quality Kvalitetno 3. Table wines Stolno Croatia may not be a big producer--it is 30th in the world, however is producing the best wines in it's 2,500 years. Gorgeous, great quality and lyrical wines that can both be served with food and many that can stand on their own. A wine country to not miss in your next wine adventures. *** James the Wine Guy http://www.jamesthewineguy.com Salute, Read more of my wine reviews: http://www.jamesthewineguy.com jamesthewineguy.wordpress.com © 2012 James Melendez / James the Wine Guy — All Rights Reserved.
