I was lucky enough to visit Aspen, Colorado, and to stand before the iconic Maroon Bells during my trip through the state. I had heard they were beautiful, but I wasn’t prepared for just how incredible they truly are—towering peaks mirrored in still water, living up to their title as the most photographed mountains in the United States. I set out on the hiking a longer trail, but a wrong turn sent me down the path less intended. For a moment, frustration crept in—the kind you only feel when you know you’re missing what you came for. Yet that feeling faded the second I reached the lake and noticed a moose, calm and unbothered, grazing in the water like it had all the time in the world. I watched quietly, the air still around us, until it lifted its head, turned, and wandered back into the wilderness as if dissolving into the landscape itself.
