‘During the war, this engine was hidden in a hay stack,’ tells Martin Speyer about the Industrie 4VD6A in his tugboat Interlude. The engine also has less copper parts than usual, but it doesn’t run less beautiful for that. Martin shows us how the engine is greased and put in position. Then we go sailing out of the Old Harbor of Vlaardingen. Martin takes the Interlude mostly out on wide water. ‘It was built in 1901 as the steam tug Assistent for the towage company Muller for outside of the lock of IJmuiden. On a narrow canal, it wants to go into the bank. Wide water, that’s where it wants to go.’ 00:00 Intro 00:26 About the engine 01:28 Pumping up oil pressure 02:38 Lubing the pistons 03:07 Lubing the rocker arm axels 04:10 Lubing the fuel pumps 04:56 Opening decompression levers 05:20 Cranking the flywheel 06:44 Refilling pressure bearing 07:29 Opening air bottles 08:29 Closing decompression levers 08:42 Starting the engine 09:32 Engine running 10:32 Sailing away 11:45 About the boat 13:17 Cruising 13:58 Sailing home 14:34 Stopping the engine
