To celebrate Essendon's return to the finals in 2019, here's a look back at one of the greatest individual finals series in history - Michael Long in 1993. Longy stamped himself across the '93 finals like few had before him, averaging 26 disposals across the four matches, kicking memorable goals, and splitting opposition teams in half with his blistering pace. How many times did he grab the ball and take off on that outer MCG wing? And his running goal on Grand Final day (that definitely wasn't touched!) has been etched into footy folklore. The culmination of his efforts...? A Norm Smith medal in a Premiership-winning side! We all know of the great work he's done outside of footy since with his campaigns against racism and his fights for his people, but there's no doubting that on the field he was simply magical, and never more so than in September of 1993.
