Few moments in Scripture shape the rest of the Bible more than God’s promise to Abraham. In Genesis 12, God declares that he will make one man into a great nation—and through that nation, restore the blessing of creation to all the peoples of the earth. This promise becomes the central theme of Genesis and the Pentateuch, and it functions as a blueprint for the entire story of redemptive history. God promises Abraham three great gifts: a people, a land, and blessing. But the ultimate purpose of these gifts is larger than Israel alone. Abraham and his descendants are blessed so that they might become a blessing, a river of God’s grace flowing outward to the nations. In this video, we trace how the Abrahamic promise looks backward to creation and forward to the new creation. We also see how God reinforces this promise through covenant, binding himself to his word with a commitment that can only be broken by death. In this video, you’ll learn: Why the Abrahamic promise is central to the entire biblical story The threefold promise: people, land, and blessing How this promise includes the nations and the renewal of creation Why Paul calls this promise “the gospel in advance” (Galatians 3:8) How Genesis highlights obstacles that threaten the promise, and God’s power to overcome them Why Genesis ends in Egypt, setting the stage for Exodus This is the beginning of God’s plan to reverse the curse and restore the world. ------ Calvin Seminary Website - https://calvinseminary.edu/ Programs Overview - https://calvinseminary.edu/seminary-p...
