As snow continues to blanket Abilene, officials are urging residents to stay indoors. Postell, who has walked from Pennsylvania and is passing through Abilene, shared his experiences of staying warm while homeless. "I used to camped so, I'm definitely more experienced than some," he said. "Staying warm, especially being homeless. Stay warm, you know, try to get a tent, get some body warmers." Postell has relied on local shelters such as the Salvation Army and Love & Care Ministries for necessities. "They can definitely provide food. They can provide or definitely shelter, but food," he said. Despite the slippery and cold walking conditions, Postell manages by avoiding icy roads and sticking to grassy areas for better traction. "I hope everyone stays safe," he said. "Nowadays, especially going towards homeless people, we normally tend to look at them like they're wild animals and they're not, you know, they're still human beings." With temperatures expected to drop into the teens overnight, Postell's story highlights the urgent need for compassion and support for the homeless community during harsh winter conditions.
