This piece comes from a collection of offertories called "Motets for the Year" which was compiled by Wilhelm Meyer Lutz around 1850 and published by Boosey & Co. It contains 74 Latin motets for between one and four voices with organ accompaniment. Most were written by Lutz himself or Samuel Webbe, but there are about a dozen arrangements of pieces by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Beethoven, and some minor composers. The "Jubilate Deo universa terra" is drawn from Psalm 65. This is different than the morning canticle "Jubilate Deo, omnis terra" which is Psalm 100 and begins with "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord" in English. This Psalm text is used liturgically as an offertory for the second Sunday in Epiphany and the fifth Sunday in Eastertide. It translates: O be joyful in God, all ye lands, sing praises unto the honour of his Name: O come hither, and hearken, all ye that fear God: and I will tell you what he hath done for my soul.
