Dec 17th is the Gregorian calendar date of Mawlana Rumi's (r) passing. He lived and died through a period of genocide and tumult, when the Muslim world was devastated by the Mongol hordes: a raging war machine the like of which the world has never seen. Nearly half the Muslim world was destroyed by Genghis Khan's army which burnt every city to the ground, torturing and killing every human they came across in their mad fury. Civilisation was razed and millions were slaughtered. Throughout his life's journey, the Mongols were an imminent threat and yet he never once expressed hatred for them. His message of Love and absorption in God ultimately influenced the whole world and directly guided the great grandchildren of the Mongols to accept Islam. On the occasion of his passing, please find this unique song, a dialogue with him through the medium of his magnificent Mathnawi: Last night I heard, a lover’s lament. It tore my heart, in pieces it rent! Once more he runs, to Layla’s abode, Barefoot Majnun, singing an ode: Nothing there is, Everything is she Except vision, there’s nothing for me! Fair Juliet, that story of old, Her lover’s death, already foretold! With knife in hand, her death is so near, Poor Zulaykha, her Yusuf is here! Though goblets old, the wine is still new: Hidden Treasure, look I pour for you! Leave the Pharaoh, to Sinai do flee Moses don’t swoon, yes this time you’ll see! Abandon prayer, Mu’azzin become Madina Bilal, your Ahmad (s) has come! Mourning forfend, Mawlana do dance Your Shams is back, he’s casting his glance! Jibril descend, Muhammad (s) do rise, Draw near to Me: your love My prize! Dunes of musk, white and so pure, Delight servants, here vision galore! Lord of Mercy, Light upon Light, Mudassir fell, raise him this night! ----------------- by Mudassir Hussain 19 Sha’ban 1429AH, 21.08.08 Composer, lead Persian singer & Taar player: Behnam Alipour Ney player: Murad Ferhad English singer: A.J Lewis Second Persian singer: Farshid Farmand Type setting: Shamshad Hanif & Amar Hussain Video Editing: Usman Bashir Connect with Love’s Pilgrim on Facebook: / lovespilgrim Twitter: / lovespilgrim Instagram: / lovespilgrim
