The south Lanarkshire hills are the location for The Leadhills and Wanlockhead railway, a 2 foot gauge railway based upon the trackbed of the old Caledonian branch that once served this lead mining community till its closure in the 1930s. It is the highest adhesion worked railway in the United Kingdom and the location of Scotlands first and second highest villages, Wanlockhead and Leadhills themselves. The railway whilst not needing signals as such decided it would make a great visitor talking point to add some Heritage signalling and there is a mix of North British and more which makes a lovely sight in this very high up location against the bleak moorlands.
