Level 1 / Zero EXP Proud Mode No Stat Boosters (including AP Boosts) The second video I'm sharing from this challenge, this one of the final Arendelle boss. I decided that while the game may have a multitude of bosses and unskippable event battles in every level, not all are worth showing. The early bosses seem unquestionably trivial for example. Since I have a lot more character space after talking about my premarure midlife crisis in the first video, I can talk about this challenge more. My first run was on Proud Mode as I usually found picking the hardest difficulty option when playing a KH game to result in the best experience (keeps you more awake when you button-mash before you heal). It was still all too easy, even though losing all your MP for an extended period of time after casting a Cure spell forces you to not suck at tougher fights. Donald is more reliable when you need a heal now, but still imho not reliable enough. I decided to exclude any and all stat boosters (including AP Boosts) from the run; actually restarted a 7-hour file because I realised I didn't want them there. You can get a very sizeable amount from chests and playing minigames and whatnot, but the dealbreaker is that you can get materials to craft a potentially infinite amount. So we go for the lowest possible stats on Sora. The lack of AP Boosts means the abilities we equip matter and we have to think what skills are important for any given battle. Much like KH3 resurrected my interest in playing games, doing this challenge brought back my love for challenges. I'd run around and collect everything, grind materials for keyblade upgrades by smashing asteroids and defeating the same kind of enemy for hours and just had a blast with all that grind. The first keyblade I focussed on was the starting Kingdom Key actually. Its transformation is so intuitive for somebody who played KH1 and 2 a lot as a teen, and it doesn't screw around with spell animations like making Thunder spells lose their area effect or Fire spells lose their range, unlike some physically oriented keyblades. It also has Lucky Strike on transformation though looking back I should've bought a bunch of Potions from the moogle shop until I got a Lucky Strike accessory from Twilight Town (they did such a poor work giving this world the justice it deserves), but it took me a while to figure out that's a thing. After this, I invested into Favourite Deputy which has innate Lucky Strike w/o requiring you to transform first, and that was my go-to weapon for farming enemy drops for the next portion of the game, and I also invested in Corona's Ever After with its Aeroga, high magic and a magically-oriented transformation that recovers MP faster when you run out and creates light versions of Sora that can attack enemies at range, which is handy when you're so squishy at lv. 1. I believe I end up using Ever After for the entirety of this fight. Skoll... hits really hard. Even with all the lucky emblems collected up to this point just barely giving Sora the best armour at this point (with +6 defence), he can't really take hits well, and the boss's biggest blow is close to a OHKO, even though it's not that hard to avoid. In this challenge where you don't level up strength, defence and magic stats, accessories and armour give you all of your raw stats before cuisine and the like - this is why I completed both Monstropolis and Arendelle before tackling either of the two areas' bosses. Having Blizzara and an extra accessory slot really helped with Lump of Horror. And then there's Cuisine. I've been collecting ingredients (come on guys, Donald doesn't talk about them any more often than the other characters do) and cooking everything possible, then doing Chef's Offer and retrying until I got the effect I wanted. Hearty Meal seems to be my favourite so far - it gives +1 to str/mag/def and about +10 to HP/MP, which seems more useful than any other effect in my experience. Does wonders for Sora's durability in particular. Casting Fira spells on the boss appears to be the best source of damage and by letting him hit you on purpose (just not by the hardest-hitting attack which will likely kill) brings a ton of MP back when you have double Damage Symphon accessories equipped, so you can barrage him with more Fira spells and potentially situational Firaga grand magic commands. When out of MP, I just whack him with Ever After keyblade to enter the transformation. Creating light versions of Sora for ranged attacks is a favourite strat of mine, but what I found works even better is regular attacks when you enter Ever After transformation. I'm not sure why they're so effective here - some sort of light weakness? I don't think that's even an actual element in the game. They tear off a huge chunk of the boss's health. One thing to notice is that the wolves the boss summons drop Focus gauge restoration, which means you have no excuse to hold on when it comes to using shotlocks.
