Revelation Chapter 5 - Worthy Is the Lamb

As we step into a new year, it’s natural to look around — at the state of the world, our finances, health, relationships, and the uncertainties ahead. But before we do that, Revelation reminds us to do something far more important: look up before you look around. In Revelation 4, John is shown who is on the throne — God, reigning, unshaken, and fully in control. In Revelation 5, the question shifts: who is worthy to act from the throne? John sees a scroll in God’s hand — God’s complete and settled plan for history, sealed and waiting for the right moment to be released. No one is found worthy to open it, and John weeps, fearing that injustice and evil will never end. But heaven interrupts his grief with hope. The elder declares that the Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered. Yet when John looks, he does not see a lion — he sees a Lamb standing, as though slain. This is no contradiction; it is the heart of the gospel. The Lion conquers by being the Lamb. Jesus did not win through force or domination, but through sacrifice, obedience, and the cross. The Lamb bears wounds yet stands alive — slain, yet victorious. He has perfect authority and perfect knowledge, acting in the fullness of the Spirit. When He takes the scroll, heaven erupts in worship, declaring Him worthy because by His blood He has redeemed people from every tribe, language, nation, and people. Worship that belongs only to God is now given to the Lamb — because Jesus is God. John also sees golden bowls filled with incense — the prayers of the saints. Not one prayer is forgotten. Not one cry is ignored. God hears His people and answers at the appointed time. As this new year begins, Revelation gives us clarity and peace: 1. The throne is secure 2. God’s plan is complete 3. The Lamb is worthy 4. Worship is right 5. Prayers are remembered So before you assess your circumstances or fear what lies ahead, remember this: Jesus reigns. Jesus is worthy. Jesus is God.
