On May 17, 2021, ACSLPA’s PD session featured Pat Hart Blundon, SLP. Pat presented “Grammatical Features of First Nations School-aged Children: Valuing Linguistic Diversity”. Her presentation included her PhD research about identified features of a First Nations dialect spoken by students in northern BC, and which features overlap with those produced by First Nations children in Alberta. Suggestions were provided regarding best SLP practice when working with First Nations children who speak varieties, potential sources of bias in assessment tools, and ways to mitigate this bias.
