What if some of what we call “generosity” is actually driven by fear, guilt, or a need to be needed? In this message, When Helping Hurts, we look at the biblical balance between godly generosity and unhealthy giving rooted in co-dependency. Using Ruth 2:18 (NIV), we see a powerful but often overlooked detail: Ruth eats until she is satisfied first—then gives the rest to Naomi. That order matters. Ruth teaches us a timeless principle: 👉 You cannot give what you do not have. 👉 Wise generosity begins with faithful stewardship of your own life. This message confronts two dangerous extremes: • Giving ourselves into the poorhouse because we don’t know how to say no • Becoming stingy or hard-hearted in the name of “wisdom” Jesus calls us to something better—a “good eye” that is generous without being driven, compassionate without enabling, and open-handed without losing discernment. If you’ve ever: • Felt guilty for setting boundaries • Confused generosity with rescuing • Been exhausted from always being the one who helps • Wondered how to give without hurting yourself or others —this message is for you. 📖 Key Scripture: Ruth 2:18 (NIV) 🎯 Core theme: Healthy generosity flows from wholeness, not compulsion. 👉 Watch to the end, reflect prayerfully, and let the Word reset how you see giving, helping, and stewardship. 💬 I’d love to hear from you: Have you ever struggled to know when helping crosses the line into hurting? Drop a comment and let’s talk. 👍 Like, subscribe, and share this message with someone who needs freedom from unhealthy patterns of giving.
