LAST XMAS UPLOAD! 🥳 We’re wrapping up this year’s season with one of the most classic animated Christmas items of all time. It’s crazy to think Mr. Christmas has been manufacturing these for well over 30 years now. I can’t think of many other retail animatronics that have stood the test of time quite this well. Not only has the design remained almost identical over the decades, but each year they seem to sell just as well as the last. I’ve owned a few of these over the years, but I believe the one you’re looking at here is an original, first generation model which I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember. I found him on February 21st, 2025 at the same estate sale as the Gemmy 5ft Santa bear and all that other crazy stuff. Unfortunately, he was in the attic of a rotting garage, which took a toll on the box, but at least it’s there. In fact, he came complete with everything, including the little ladder supports and all the original packaging and instructions. However, the whole unit was SUPER dusty, and Santa barely moved at all. I took everything apart as far as I could and washed every single piece individually, which was fun 😂. I could tell by the streaks on the ladder that poor Santa had a lot of mileage put on him over the years, but it was even more obvious once I got inside. There was visible wear on literally every moving joint, to the point where it was starting to sand the plastic down in some areas. My solution to this was just to kinda grease everything, which seemed to help. All the rollers in his hands were completely worn down too (one was missing completely), so I replaced them using small pulley pieces with O rings on them lol. The switch in his hand responsible for switching the direction of the motor was snapped off, which I suspect was related to the fact that it was very finicky and didn’t always work. I imagine if it didn’t make good contact one time, Santa would just keep trying to walk until he snapped the switch 😂. I took it apart, polished up the contacts, and glued it back together. His motor also wasn’t running well, and I thought I’d have to find him a replacement. This uses a huge motor that isn’t really made to be taken apart, but I finally broke into it with some brute force and somehow managed to get it back together with some pure luck. The brushes inside had been shaved down to almost nothing, and there was plenty of metal dust in there to prove it. I couldn’t replace the brushes, but I polished and greased everything the best I could and bent the brushes inwards to hopefully give them more tension. So far it’s working great! I’ve owned this guy for almost a full year now, but I just finished fixing him up yesterday. I’m so happy with the final product, I’ll definitely be keeping this one.
