Maybe he heard me playing and decided it was time to show me how it’s properly done. He began playing the temple drum and gong in the traditional way, and it was incredible to watch. The rhythm, the timing, the meaning behind each strike — it reminded me how much there is still to learn about temple life here in Southeast Asia. I’m still very much a student when it comes to temple gongs and drums. The deeper I go, the more I realise how much history, discipline, and spiritual meaning is behind every sound.
