Despite the FDA reversing its approval of fenofibrate drugs for reducing cardiovascular events and recently changing their label to reflect their lack of efficacy, millions of patients across the country are taking prescribed fenofibrates with their statins. In an interview with HCPLive, Payal Kohli, MD, FACC, founder and medical director of Cherry Creek Heart and associate adjunct professor in the division of cardiology at Duke University School of Medicine, breaks down why these medications are still being given out and what clinicians can do to stop their flow. “The most important thing is to really clarify the new evidence without creating patient alarm or eroding patient trust.
