I'm gearing up for my second backpacking trip on the Tahoe Rim Trail this summer. There are lots of gear list videos out there, but this one is different. I show you not only WHAT I'm taking for this thru hike, but WHY. As a professional outfitter, I understand how personal gear choices are. Knowing what to take on a backpacking trip can be confusing because there are so many options. That's why I took the time in this video to explain the reason each item I'm taking on my thru-hike earned a place in my pack. With a full-comfort 15 lb base weight, my carefully curated gear list is full of trail-tested gear, including a few luxury items. As an older backpacker, I'm not ultralight because I value items that help me hike without pain and sleep well on the trail. I also want to fully enjoy this trip, with a zero day in Tahoe City and a more leisurely pace than I usually hike. I added a few extra items to my gear list to make this trip amazing.
