This presentation will share information on the performance-based design, modeling, and construction of a Passive House in Morongo Valley California. The nearly completed home will provide comfort, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and resilience in dealing with both extreme heat in summer and below freezing winter temperatures. The Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) incorporates iterative modeling that enables cost effective achievement of desired performance goals. In addition to the basic PH Principles, this home also employed creative shading strategies and below slab insulation in order to meet PHI certification levels. Learning Points: 1. PHPP as a design exploration tool 2. Achieving evidence-based performance by integrating PH performance standards with CA’s required prescriptive standards 3. How shading strategies, including exterior window shading, impact heating and cooling loads 4. Balancing below slab insulation for the achievement of heating and cooling demand 5. Balancing wall and roof insulation values for cost effective performance Presenter: Trent Laughton – Architect and Builder at not/not – www.notnot.us
