In this video, I continue my Ramadan journey as I travel from Malaysia into the Deep South of Thailand, a region many people don’t realize is home to a thriving Muslim community. Yala, my destination, has an estimated 82% Muslim population, making it one of the most significant Islamic areas in the country. This is a side of Thailand that rarely gets attention, but during Ramadan, the atmosphere here is truly special. My journey begins at the Malaysia-Thailand border, where I cross over into a region rich in culture, faith, and hospitality. As I arrive in Yala, I’m welcomed by the incredible local Muslim community, eager to share their traditions with me. The streets are lined with mosques, and the call to prayer echoes through the town, reminding me just how deeply rooted Islam is in this part of Thailand. One of the most unforgettable moments of this trip is visiting the Yala Central Mosque, the heart of the city’s Islamic life. Here, I join the locals for prayer and experience the powerful sense of unity that Ramadan brings. Later, as the sun sets, I sit down with new friends to break our fast together, sharing delicious local dishes and, of course, the famous Thai tea—a must-try during any visit to the region. As the night continues, I explore how the people of Yala spend their Ramadan evenings. The city comes alive after iftar, with bustling markets, families gathering in mosques for Taraweeh prayers, and a deep sense of spirituality filling the air. It’s an experience unlike any other, blending Thai and Malay influences into a unique Ramadan atmosphere that many travelers never get to see. But beyond the mosques, the food, and the traditions, what truly makes this journey special is the people. The kindness and hospitality of the Thai Muslims I meet along the way make me feel at home, even though I’m miles away from where I grew up. Their stories, their generosity, and their unwavering faith leave a lasting impression on me. This video is more than just a travel vlog—it’s a glimpse into a hidden gem of the Muslim world, a place where faith and culture intertwine beautifully. Join me as I explore Yala during the most spiritual time of the year, and witness firsthand how the Muslim community of Southern Thailand comes alive during Ramadan.
