The Early-Nineties was a very productive period in the musical career of Kevin Rowland with many new songs written and demoed for a proposed new Dexys Midnight Runners album. One of the key tracks was "My Life In England" which told the story of Kevin's early years in Wolverhampton and Harrow. However, a second version of the song focusing on his youthful yearnings for a girl named Margaret was also demoed. Many of the songs from this era were later re-worked with substantially altered lyrics but the eventual release of an updated recording of the earlier version under the title "My Life In England - Part One" made it clear that both sets of lyrics were part of a bigger whole - and this later version was, in fact, "My Life In England - Part Two". Combining the bittersweet memories of a childhood romance with a scathing political attack on the presence of British troops in Northern Ireland, the song represented a typically perverse mixture of emotions and lyrical themes that could only come from the mind of Kevin Rowland.
