Chris Vollaro came out for cross country in the fall of 1985 to stay in shape for basketball. Little did he know that would turn into 40 years, with over 100,000 miles to his resume, which has resulted in a 9 year streak of never missing a day of running. Chris did many things in his career at Derby high, All valley, 3 consecutive years, 2nd team all Housy senior year, back to back first place finishes against Berlin junior and senior year. Team went 44-28 in his 4 years as a runner. He was elected captain in 1988, finished 28th out of 126 runners at the Windham Invitational. We can go on and on and on. However, it didn’t stop after high school. At Vermont state university, Chris was 4 time All New England in both cross country and track, taking his running talent to a whole new level. His dedication and determination made his one of the greatest cross country runners to ever come through the town if derby. He left a lasting impression for both past and current Derby runners.
