Activities associated with Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace on 4 February 2026. The Old Guard was shown on the schedules as being from Number 9 Company Irish Guards, and the New Guard was shown as being from Number 7 Company Coldstream Guards. The musical support was provided by the Pipes of Number 12 Company Irish Guards and the Band of the Scots Guards. At the head of the Band was SDM (Senior Drum Major) Fairley. The morning was mainly sunny with a few light clouds, and it started off quite cool, but luckily it was not frosty or icy. There was not much wind (wind can affect the recorded sound). It stayed dry during the time I was there – a welcome respite from a succession of days in which there has just been continuous rain. The crowds were quite heavy in places, which made getting quickly from one location to another, and trying to film, a bit of a challenge at times. In places I've left uncut footage where the Band or Pipes aren't yet in view, or have gone out of view, in order to keep as much of the music as possible. 00:00 The Pipes, having left Wellington Barracks, marching up Spur Road towards the Victoria Memorial on their way to St James Palace to meet the Old Guard contingent there. Other bagpipes can be heard playing behind the buildings at Wellington Barracks, which left me somewhat mystified! 00:43 The Pipes, leading the Old Guard contingent, marching along Marlborough Road away from Friary Court at St James Palace, and back westwards along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. 03:04 Looking as if they're emerging from darkness (a result simply because of the low angle of the sun) the Band, leading the New Guard, having left Wellington Barracks, marching up Spur Road towards Buckingham Palace, playing "Machine Gun Guards" (Eric Marechal), and then "Edinburgh Castle" (Lt Col Duncan Beat). 06:57 The Band, leading the Old Guard, marching back along Spur Road and onto the parade ground at Wellington Barracks, playing "Let Erin Remember" (Regimental Slow March of the Irish Guards), and then "Holyrood" (Kenneth Alford). The male voice near the beginning is a tour guide explaining to his tour group how the ceremony runs. There was later another distraction to my concentration when trying to film! 10:34 Filmed through the fence at Wellington Barracks, the Band playing "St Patrick's Day" (Regimental Quick March of the Irish Guards) on the Parade Ground as the Old Guard are getting into position to be stood down. 11:55 Another short clip, filmed through the fence (and an available gap between the spectators) at Wellington Barracks, of the Parade Ground, including the Band, and the Old Guard being stood down. The bugle is heard. The "percussion" sound that can be heard faintly in the distance in some of this footage would likely be the Pipes marching back to St James Palace, now with a contingent of the New Guard.
