This is an entryway cabinet which was used as a home temple by the customer. It is not looking anywhere close to pooja mandir and hence the customer wants me to add the gopuram and paint it. Since this is a custom order I am going to paint this cabinet the way the customer has requested which is in the color combination of dark brown and dark green. The customer has also picked the motifs in yellow and white with a golden touch. I have started working on the gopuram first. If you are interested to learn how to make this gopuram click the link in the description box. Once the gopuram is complete it needs thorough cleaning and smoothening of rough edges before painting. The customer has requested only the outsides of the cabinet to be painted and the insides to be left as-is. For the doors I am using "Fern" from Waverly for the green color. Although this green doesn't look dark, it will appear a shade darker once I apply the black wax. I am also painting the top and the bottom trims green. For painting the legs, sides and top I am using "Java" from Folkart for the dark brown color. Both green and brown need two coats of paint. But I ran out of brown paint for the second coat. I have placed an order and waiting for its arrival. I have also ordered new chalk paint brushes and I am looking forward to using them. this is a new brand which I have not used before. it is common for new brushes to shred bristles. So before using any new brush try to remove any loose bristles by gently pulling them out. otherwise the loose bristles will start dropping on your work while you are painting. Wet the brush and remove any excess water from the brush before dipping them into the paint. This helps to spread the paint smoothly on the furniture. Once the two coats of the paint has dried it is time for stenciling. This customer was asking for leaf motifs on the doors and mandala motifs on the sides in yellow and white shades. I am also adding some borders. I am applying a golden ticket from Debi's DIY on the front side edges to give that rich look to the cabinet. I am completing the gopuram by painting it brown, green and gold. I have also attached the finials after spray painting them with gold. Now the cabinet is in it's final stage. I am applying black wax since the customer asked for a darker green. People prefer darker colors as they don’t show-up stains and are considered as low maintenance in terms of cleaning. My personal opinion is that it does hide stains but shows-up dust particles which also need regular cleaning and maintenance. for the brown color I am using water based polyurethane. But if you want a chalky finish I recommend you to use clear wax as the finishing coat.
