Making Marbled Concrete - Purple and Black

Experimenting with adding color to a concrete mix is a fun and interesting way to make your own creative concrete projects. There are a host of ways to color concrete and any combination of colors you can imagine. This five part series will try different combinations of colors and patterns to create some simple stepping stone samples. In this first video, purple and black acrylic paints are each used in a white Portland cement slurry (water and cement powder mixed to a thin paste). These slurries are applied with a paint brush in a marbling effect onto a poly-plastic surface in a simple concrete stepping stone mold. A 2:1 mortar mix made with white sand and white Portland cement is used to fill the block mold. Once the stone has cured enough to be demolded, about 24-48 hours later, the cool marbling effect of the purple and black cement slurry is revealed.
