Crafting these grips was an exercise in patience. The old adage states that the third time is the charm, and that, unfortunately, fell true for me on this project. Wood warping, over drilling, and other mistakes made on my part made for a rather prolonged effort. Crafting scales on a knife is so much easier as it allows the grinder to come in contact with the knife material. On the Ruger, I had to take special car not to scratch the finish. This meant a large amount of hand fitting, sanding, and refitting. In the end I am happy with the results. I bought this Ruger Old Model Vaquero with no grips, and had originally planned on using nice wood, such as black walnut or maple burl. I am very grateful I did not, or a lot of expensive wood would have been wasted. The wood used in the video is just some scrap oak I had laying around. I toyed with idea of staining it, but the Tru-Oil darkened up the grain enough for my liking. I hoped you enjoyed watching, take care. Song is Danse Macabre by Camille Saint- Saens
