ARCAM Alpha CD5 TDA1541A Non Oversampling, and more tuning stuff: -non oversampling board; -two Dexxa power regulators +5/-5v to update the main board power supply; -all capacitors upgraded to top-notch quality; -the last decoupling capacitors changed to Arcotronics MKT foil; -diodes upgraded to ultra-fast Vishay VYV28; -resistors in audio board: Shinkoh tantalum, Allen Bradley and PRP; -jump wires in audio board changed to Neotech UP-OCC 7N copper; -MKT capacitors around TDA1541A updated with high values; -all capacitors isolated with copper foil to reduce the EMI emission; -several chips isolated with copper foil to reduce the EMI interference; -Dynamat Xtreme in side panels to reduce vibrations and add mass; -aluminium foil glued in the chassis to reduce the magnetic fields; main fuse upgraded to Synergistic Research black; -Buffer op-amps changed to OPA1611AID Class A (200mA) - YES! -This is the end of the road for this beautiful machine? Absolutely NO! It's hard to put a limit in those CD players equipped with 2R2 DAC chips. There are more things to come soon. The sound? Subjectively is lively, crisp, sharp, fast, dynamic, natural. Someone told that Arcam Alpha 5CD is the plebeian version of a Naim CD3. I have both. Right now, which sound better? The Arcam Alpa 5 with no doubts!
