From iconic vessels and historic lighthouses to public art and seal watching, here’s what makes Harwich a must-visit destination. ⚓ Harwich Maritime Heritage – Where History Meets the Estuary Harwich has long been a strategic port guarding the entrance to the Rivers Stour and Orwell. It was home to the Royal Navy Yard, the Packet Service, and the Mayflower’s captain, Christopher Jones. Today, it blends working harbour life with heritage trails and public art. • The Patricia – Harwich-based Trinity House vessel for buoy maintenance and ceremonial duties • Harwich Harbour Ferry – Seasonal foot ferry connecting Harwich, Shotley, and Felixstowe, with seal watching trips available • Ha’penny Pier – Built in 1853, named after its original toll, now a hub for ferries, boat trips, and the LV18 Light Vessel 🚢 LV18 Light Vessel – Floating Radio & Film Star Moored at Ha’penny Pier, LV18 is Britain’s last surviving manned light vessel. Built in 1958, she served off the Kent coast before retiring to Harwich.
