How can drums help build the quantum internet? Today's' host, Dr. Irene Sánchez Arribas, completed her doctoral research in the group of Prof. Eva M. Weig, at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Garching, Germany. In her research, she studies the interaction of the light confined in an optical cavity with mechanical resonators (tiny drums) made of hexagonal boron nitride, a material with quantum properties. In this Quantum Minutes episode, she will tell you how such an experimental platform could help bridge the gap towards the quantum internet! In the Quantum Minutes series, our scientists explain fundamental quantum terms in an easy and understandable manner. The videos are shot in their actual research facilities where state-of-the-art quantum science is being carried out. The Munich Center for Quantum Science & Technology is an excellence cluster of the German Research Foundation (DFG). The cluster consists of renowned institutions such as LMU München, TUM, Walther-Meißner-Institute, Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics, and the Deutsches Museum.
