"These Fragile Wings," track 3 of Lost Post's debut album 'All We'll Leave Is Dust,' performed live at our album launch party at Southampton's Harmony House! Featuring guest harmonies by @tenderlore LYRICS: We’re all just moths in the moonlight – we shine for such a short time Ordinary people do extraordinary things – with no reason nor rhyme A man in his twenties stands at a door, armed with aroma and flowers galore His legs are like jelly and beginning to quake, he ran all the way to avoid being late She opens the door and his heart skips a couple of beats He savours the air all around her so suddenly sweet A single mother in a bustling airport, her child’s mind races with what, why, and wherefore Her mother’s been working herself to the bone, to show her daughter something else that ain’t home Their flight’s been delayed for three hours but they’re doing just fine The love of the mother reflected in her young one’s smile A couple surrounded by young lover’s glow, in aim of the crosshair of a winged cherub’s bow It lets loose an arrow and tracks down its mark, the two sing and dance as it starts to get dark They walk hand in hand to the place that he’s planned by the sea He gets on his knee and produces a promise to be A girl and her classmates are kicking around, they find a scared fox cub, it’s starting to howl Alone and injured and tired and thin, they rush it to their clubhouse and usher it in They stay by its side and nurse it back to good health They ransacked the food from the cupboard and left none for themselves We’re all just moths in the moonlight – we shine for such a short time Ordinary people do extraordinary things – with no reason nor rhyme Fresh out of college she’s doing her rounds, the girl from the clubhouse in her blue and white gown She walks with her checklist and a box full of pills, in a ward for the done for, the dying, and ill And asks an old lady if she’s warm, if she’s doing alright The old woman laughs, feigns a smile, says she’s doing just fine Her husband sits quietly across from his love, hunched in a chair and his back giving up She eyes him with affection from her hospital bed, reflecting so fondly the day that they’d wed Her body’s been struck by a curse from her family tree He holds her hand tightly but slowly her soul makes to leave An old man fumbles his way through a shop, his eyesight is failing and a cane holds him up A young woman sees him and takes his frail hand, she goes where he needs to and helps him to stand They walk arm in arm to the home where he spent his whole life Reminded of the patience and kindness she showed to his wife We’re all just moths in the moonlight – we shine for such a short time Ordinary people do extraordinary things – with no reason nor rhyme We’re all just moths in the moonlight – we shine for such a short time #americanamusic #newmusic #liveperformance #folkmusic #folksong
