Walking on a Dried Lakebed at Otay Lakes | Unexpected Family Adventure

We set out for a family walk at Otay Lakes in Chula Vista and ended up on an adventure we’ll never forget. The water was so low that we were actually walking on the exposed lakebed, something we never expected to experience. Along the way, we discovered apple snail eggs, live apple snails, old shoes, gloves, and other surprises left behind as the lake receded. The views were absolutely stunning and felt peaceful, eerie, and beautiful all at once. After exploring the lakebed, we walked part of the lake’s perimeter and stumbled upon the perfect tree swing. One by one, we all took turns swinging, laughing, and soaking in the moment. This was one of those simple family adventures that turns into a core memory, and we’re so glad we captured it.
