Paddling and Wild Camping the River Wey Navigation

In this video I explore the Wey and Godalming Navigations, which are the mostly man-made sections of the River Wey in Surrey. Blurring the lines between river and canal and with an engineering history going back over 450 years, there is something really unique about this historic trail. Roughly twenty miles long, it comprised a two day paddling trip with an overnight camp at Papercourt Lock. Like a miniature Thames, it offers that classic contrast of town and country, with a variety of historic sights along the way from Victorian Industrial Wharfeside architecture to a ruined 12th century priory at Newark. There is also a wild section of the River Wey, but that will be for another video… I hope you enjoy watching this video as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it.
