This Video examines how game designers break conventions to push towards new frontiers of creativity in design, by examining the game design of Shigeru Miyamoto, Will Wright, Fumito Ueda, Sid Meier, Warren Specter, Jonathan Blow and others. Revolutionary designers from the aaa scene to the indy space all exhibit a core set of traits, that being drawing from outside inspirations, repurposing patterns in a new context, and iterating heavily based on the constraints of design. The video documents the old guard of creativity from will wright, to miyamoto and warrens specter, to the indy revolution spearheaded by jonathan blow, to recent games that have explicitly tried to change the process to change the outcome, exemplified best by the legend of zelda breath of the wild.
