Mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to a wide variety of human maladies such as neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, myopathies, and others. A majority of studies that examine mitochondria in these disease states describe its role in triggering apoptosis. In this seminar, we will discuss how mitochondria also contribute to disease in other ways beyond cell death. We will also share our future directions and perspectives on how we can best study how mitochondria contribute to disease states.
