Title: Casting a Wide Net: Diversity of Perspectives Improves Management of Gulf of Maine Ecosystems Speaker: Jocelyn Runnebaum, Marine Program Manager, The Nature Conservancy in Maine Environmental governance requires public participation in natural resource policy. However, simply creating a public process may not ensure meaningful engagement, especially for complex issues like climate-informed fisheries and offshore wind. Conservation NGOs like The Nature Conservancy (TNC) play a crucial role in supporting this. TNC Maine focuses on building relationships across sectors and political landscapes to broaden public participation. By "casting a wide net," they aim to encourage diverse voices and foster meaningful engagement in public policy decisions that improve environmental outcomes. Jocelyn Runnebaum’s research focuses on the sustainability of Gulf of Maine ecosystems, connecting science to management, and supporting key-parties to be active and valued partners in the policy and management of marine resources. Among her other roles, she is chair of the Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee to NOAA Fisheries. For information about the Senator George J.
