On this walk we take in the beautiful area of Red Wharf Bay on Anglesey in North Wales. With a lovely and vast beach, beautiful coastal homes, moored boats and places to eat and drink it might be small but it's perfect for a day trip or a little getaway. Red Wharf Bay lies in an area of outstanding beauty and was named after a Viking battle that took place on the beach in 1170, leaving the sand soaked in blood. The Welsh name for Red Wharf Bay is Treath Coch meaning red beach. We begin this early evening walk at the far end of the bay overlooking Castell Mawr Rock and the beautiful view out to sea just as the sun was starting to set. The lovely coastal homes and holiday lets that sit right on the front are a mix of original traditional to the more elaborate modern buildings of today. The popular Boathouse Cafe and Restaurant serves lovely food and drinks, as does The Ship Inn which, built in 1740, was originally a row of small cottages with a small pub within the cottage on the left. The tenants at the time served ale to the many sailors who passed through the then busy port of Red Wharf Bay. While it was low tide we were able to walk down onto the shoreline to the more quieter, peaceful part of the bay. As a designated nature reserve it attracts many birds including Purple Sandpipers, Curlew, Shelduck and Dunlin. We end our walk looking back towards The Ship Inn and out across this beautiful stretch of coastline. If you enjoyed our video please give us a like and hit the subscribe button.
