Applying pain to the nose and leveraging the neck properly for the takedown are two of the more difficult aspects of the defense against Headlock from the Side for new students to learn. This video covers many details to the proper hand placement, angle to apply pain to the nose, as well as correct positioning for leveraging the neck. Additional videos and information about our self defense, fighting, and fitness programs are available at http://www.kravmagatraining.com/ The videos on this YouTube channel are NOT a replacement for actual instruction. They do not teach techniques, but instead isolate and fix problems within the technique or its individual components. The videos are designed to help the student who has already learned the technique under the instruction of a qualified instructor. Important Note: These videos are specific to the techniques and curriculum taught to the students at our facility. Students from other Krav Maga schools and organizations are more than welcome to watch and use these videos and we hope they find them useful! However, variations may be taught that are different from the techniques taught at other Krav Maga locations. This doesn't mean one variation is wrong or the other is right. They are just variations...plain and simple. The most important question for any technique or defense should be this: Does it work for the individual who is performing it? As long as it does, then the technique or variation has merit, regardless of where it comes from! That's the number one principle that we emphasize at our school. Transcript: Hi, thanks for watching. My name is Randall. This is Bob. And in the previous video that was JJ helping me out. We're all with www.KravMagaTraining.com. In this video I'm going to cover some details, some key details to defending the headlock from the side. And specifically, getting into the proper hand placement in order to leverage the neck in order to get out of this particular attack as well as take the attacker down. This is what I've found is one of the more difficult aspects for new students to learn is exactly where to place their hand. Exactly how to apply pain into the nose in order to leverage the neck. So I'm going to cover all the little details for this particular technique. Okay. First, when I defend the headlock from the side and I get my hand into place, this is the correct hand placement. My index finger is going to go across his upper lip, underneath his nose like this, and my thumb is going to be underneath his chin. I am going to basically create a 'C' with my thumb and my index finger. This placement is very important. For one, notice how it keeps my fingers, all my digits, away from the mouth. Some people like to use the middle finger, which is fine as long as you keep your finger extended out. But I'm always a little paranoid about accidentally getting my index finger across their mouth. And that bad guy is going to bite your finger clean off just like someone is biting down on a carrot. If you don't want to lose your fingers you need to keep your fingers away from the bad guy. So my preference is to use the index finger instead. Plus, that allows me to have three more fingers in order to hook eyes, gougw eyes, to facilitate the next leverage technique. Although this part, the pressure into the nose is the key part, the most important part, if I happen to gouge some eyes, hook the eyes in order to facilitate that, I'm all for that. Now, the proper placement of the index finger is right here. Not on top of the nose. Not on the upper lip. It's kind of up and underneath this nose and you press up at 45° angle. So if I was turning him sideways like this, this would be my hand placement and I'm applying the pressure in this direction here. I am kind of using the side of my finger, the side of the knuckle area here on my finger. I found that bony part of you finger applies the most pressure into that nerve. There's a nerve right underneath here. It's called the infra orbital nerve. When you drive into that very hard it creates a lots of pain which lifts the bad guy's chin up...
