The biggest question I'm asked in reference to threaded pipe fabrication is how tight should I screw the pipe into the fitting. My answer is always the same ( It depends?). The condition of the pipe threads, are they factory cut threads, field cut threads, the condition of the equipment used to make the threads, are you using pipe sealing compounds?? They're all going to have an effect on how far a piece of pipe will screw into a fitting, but in my opinion the technicians experience and feel will have a greater impact on how everything will fit together in order to create a leak proof joint.
