The Mellow Cowboy traded the dry frontier for the deep swamp on this track. You can hear the humidity in the strings. The weeping, sliding instrumentation stays strictly within the 1910s, but the heavy, soulful progression channels the gritty swamp-rock and delta blues that wouldn't echo through the south for another 50 years.
