An original composition for an encounter on an underdark island. Part 4 of a series. Like, comment, and subscribe for more! The island was crisscrossed with streams and pools which the wizard would make use of by playing a magical gamelan. Artwork : https://www.deviantart.com/e-will As a DM and musician I'm always looking for the best quality campaign music to heighten the sense of adventure. There's a lot of great stuff out there, but I decided to start making my own with a few precepts: 1- The music should be arranged, mixed and mastered to sit comfortably underneath the conversation at the table. I want the music to be felt more often than heard. This means keeping things minimal in the frequency spectrum most useful for understanding speech, but also keeping the arrangements understated. 2- Songs should be long and loopable, so as a DM you're not having to look at the playlist all that often. They should also be steady, without wild swings of timbre, tempo, volume that beg attention. 3- Each series will have a number of variations that work together and transition from one to the next seamlessly. This way the music can develop alongside your story. 4- I also want them to be easy to find and implement so without a deep understanding or memory of the music a DM could find an appropriate variation for a long rest, a creepy moment, battle prep, et al. Generally they'll always be named with their energy level (e.g. LOW) and/or purpose (e.g. BATTLE TRANSITION) 5- I personally have found out-of-combat music the hardest to find, so I put an emphasis on those variations. Perhaps I'll change my tune someday but for now I almost always default to taiko drums for battle.
