Highlights of a flight on 14th May 2025 from Barton to Kemble. The conditions were lovely with excellent visibility and far less turbulence than we had been experiencing in the previous few days. Having departed from Barton we went across to the North West Transit Corridor. Although no longer required, we chose to listen to Manchester Radar. While doing so we heard a helicopter with the call sign Rainbow One Romeo. I believe that means an aircraft from the RAF’s Royal Flight and I think I first came across it when there were a number of flights going through the North West to Balmoral towards the end of the late Queen’s life. As the SkyDemon trail shows, after exiting the NWTC we were then able to fly pretty much a straight line to Kemble. We were considering using the listening squawk for Birmingham but, on reflection, decided we were too far away from them for that to be of use. Kemble is really interesting with a good café and lots of aircraft including a Boeing 747 which is used as an events space and private hire venue (https://www.negus747.com/about). We parked next to a Folland Gnat the significance of which is that Kemble was the home of the Red Arrows from 1966 to 1983 and they flew the Gnat.
