I thought I'd have a go at converting the ZWO 5-position manual filter wheel (MFW) into an ASCOM-compliant electronic filter wheel (EFW), which took a bit of fiddling, but now it's done :-) The cost for the parts plus the £69 for the ZWO MFW comes to about £86 in all, and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I've made it myself too. If anyone is interested in having a go, I'll upoad the 3D files, circuit diagram, circuit board layout and the software to Instructables or somewhere similar. Also check out my neat Celestron auxilliary port splittter solution at the end, which allows the CGX mount to support the hand controller, the focus motor and the StarSense all at once, keeping the cabling really neat too. That's another saving, as the Celestron equivalent is £26, and mine cost me about £3.50 :-) 00:00 - Introduction 01:12 - Demonstration 02:01 - Statistics on display 02:48 - Taking it apart 03:32 - Tour of the internals 04:29 - Rear view 04:44 - Removing the EFW module 05:10 - Tour of the circuit board 05:44 - Boot and operation with the top off 08:02 - View into the workings 08:35 - MFW Dismantled showing magnet 09:33 - Fit and finsh 10:33 - Reindexing 11:47 - Circuit diagram 13:08 - Parts list and costs 14:45 - EFW in use on Celestron CGX & C925 15:15 - Home-made Aux Port splitter Enjoy :-)
