EP 31 Chillingham to Quarry House - The Grand Tour of Northumberland

13th June 2021 Join me on my walk of historic Northumberland as I continue my hike. Packed full of history and beautiful scenery. UK hiking at its best in England's least populated county. I start with a quick discussion of the wild cattle of Chillingham as I follow the road to the remains of a Medieval tower house. In the nearby woods I discover a bronze age burial site and visit a large boulder that is a favourite of rock climbers. Leaving the woods, I call by a quaint little church before reaching an iron hill fort with a difference making it unique in Northumberland. I explore a WWII pillbox and neolithic rock carvings before reaching one of the highlights of the walk, a bronze age grave site that's over 4,000 years old. A visit to an abandoned farmhouse where I explore its impressive crags before reaching a mysterious set of steps in the middle of the moors that descend into the earth. Finally finishing the section at Quarry House. To be continued...
