On 31 October 2000, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed resolution 1325, recognising the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. Today, 32 African countries have adopted national action plans to implement WPS, focusing on participation, protection, prevention, and relief and recovery. In this episode of the "She Stands for Peace" podcast, we delve into the protection pillar, examining the threats faced by women peacebuilders and human rights defenders, from physical violence to economic and emotional challenges. We hear from Chantal Mutamuriza, a feminist human rights defender, Clement Voule (Togo) UN SP on Freedom of Association, Ghita El Khyari, Head of UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund ,and Dr. Fatima Aliku, Executive Director of Neem Foundation, who share their insights and experiences.
