Running the Gauntlet: Trying to reach the Apostles Pt.5/We finally made it! ...and we're staying!!!

In this last installment of our "Running the Gauntlet" series, we left Schooner Bay, a marina on the Wisconsin mainland just north of Bayfield, and finally dropped the anchor for two pristine nights at Stockton Island in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. After a long 10 days dealing with endless motoring, poor weather, and engine repairs, this escape was just what we needed. We even capped it all off with an incredibly satisfying sail at the end of the trip. Since we had plenty of downtime in the days leading up to this, we thought long and hard about our location and finally came to the conclusion that we needed to move Cadence to a home base closer to the Islands if we truly wanted to explore the area. Apparently our luck was already changing, because Schooner Bay happened to have an open slip--and we took it. Still, it was not an easy decision to make. We had been at Barkers Island Marina in Superior, Wisconsin for 13 seasons. This was the place where we learned to sail and got to know many lifelong friends. We will truly miss them, but the timing was right for us to make this move. So, now our sailing home base is right here, in beautiful Bayfield, on majestic Lake Superior. We cannot wait to continue exploring this incredible place!
