Pastor Keith Hughes Celebration Church Cocoa Beach FL James 1:12 After talking about trials James shifts to something that often comes right after a struggle. James says, now it’s time to Pass the test in Your Faith. And it is, Temptation. When things are hard: We often are Tempted. The word Temptation is the desire to engage in short-term, often unwise or sinful urges that threaten long-term goals, character, or moral standards. It acts as an enticement, lure, or attraction to forbidden actions. The Latin word temptare: to taste or try, it represents a psychological pull toward immediate gratification despite knowing it is wrong. And we are trying to find an easy way out: So, we are Tempted to Compromise our Character: We might even Blame God for the Temptation: We might say that God put Us in this Situation. So, it’s God's fault that we sinned. James 1:13-14 In the commission of a sinful act, one is first beguiled by passion, then consent is given, which in turn causes the sinful act. When sin consumes the entire person, its ultimate penalty is death. No one should say God is Tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does God tempt anyone. Genesis 16:1-4 No, God Test us to bring out the best in us. But God never, never, tempts us to do evil! So, where does evil come from? It comes from us. It comes from the broken desires, inside our own hearts. How sin is born. It starts with a desire, and a thought. Genesis 16:2 After 10 years in Canaan without a child, Sarai takes matters into her own hands. Abram listens to and agrees with Sarai's request, acting on her advice rather than waiting for a direct word from God. Acts 4:31-37; 5:1-11 Ananias and Sapphira tested God. We see something we want. Maybe it’s money or power or a relationship that is not right for us. If we don’t stop that thought, it grows. Then after the desire has been conceived, it gives birth to sin and sin when it is fully grown, gives birth to Death. Sin is a process. It does not happen by accident. It is a chain reaction. Genesis 16:4-5; James 1:14-16 James 1:17 God: is the source of life. Sin: is the source of death. You have to choose which source you will choose from. James 1:22 James warns us that it is possible to read and listen to God’ Word every single day and still deceive yourself. Do not merely listen to the word of God. But “Do what it says.” Because this is a dangerous trap for religious people and many people who call themselves Believer. We think that because we heard a sermon or read a couple of chapters in the Bible, we have accomplished something. Information without Transformation is Useless! James uses the example of comparing the Bible to a Mirror. James 1:22-25 The Bible is a mirror to the souls. When we read it, we see the truth about ourselves. We see our selfness. We see our anger. We see our pride. God shows us these things so we can change so we can transformed into His imagine and likeness. And if we close the Bible and go back to living the same way, we are just like the foolish man in the mirror. Real faith is not just hearing! But doing, and Not Temping God. Those who intently study, and act upon the Perfect law of liberty. The Gospel’s Scripture, rather than just hearing it, will be blessed in their actions. The blessing comes not just from knowing the truth, but from acting upon it. Blessed is the man who remains steadfast in enduring the Temptations, he has stood the test and will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him. God will bring those who endure “Temptation, Trials and are able to Pass the Test.” They will receive their reward of eternal life, a crown of life. Just by “Doing the Practical Faith.” Believing and Trusting in God. Jesus said, Have Faith in God. So, the question is do you have “Faith” and who do you have “Faith” in? I have the Faith in the One who can save me, redeem me, raise me from the dead, the One who can give me eternal life with the Savior? The only One who I can put my faith in is “The only True and Living One, is God!” The Father who created me, through Son, who died for me, by the Holy Spirit, who leads me and guides me. Who makes me One in God through Christ Jesus. I rather put my faith in God! Who helped me through my “Trials” and ordered for me to pass my Test of “Temptations!” By Doing The Practical, Doing and Saying, and Obeying God’s Word in Faith.
