I am using a peg on my nose to show you that I am not breathing. You do not need to use a peg. The best breathing is natural breathing. During this session please begin with natural breathing and return to natural breathing whenever you need In natural breathing you need to Inhale low (using your diaphragm) Exhale without tension Breathe as little as comfortable Breathe through your nose But if you want to improve on natural breathing ('super-natural' breathing) then your breath has to have the essence of natural breathing inside it. This includes maintaining diaphragmatic function throughout your breath cycle exhaling without tension (using your transverse abdominis) Breathe as little as comfortable Breathe through your nose This video is an instructed beginner to advanced breath-control practice. CAUTION: Please do not force anything. Be especially cautious if attempting to 'pretend to breathe out while holding your breath in' by gently contracting your trunk. Do this gently and keep you head down & your neck slightly backwards. Do not let pressure come to your head. Back to natural breathing Static meditation (in any comfortable posture) Understanding how to breathe correctly and optimise control of your breathing is critical to maintaining good health. Once you can restore natural breathing, initially at rest and then during exercise, you can improve your breathing to a point where it can give you exceptional health, happiness, and longevity benefits. Many people think that the essence of breathing is to breathe more. But in fact, superior health comes when you can learn how to comfortably breathe less than usual for your activity while maximising your use and control of your breathing muscles. One of the benefits of exercise is that it increases the activity of your breathing muscles. One of the benefits of good sleep, meditation, and relaxation is that you tend to have minimal breathing. In this course, you will learn how to use your breathing muscles while breathing less than usual to get many benefits of exercise, relaxation, meditation, and healthy sleep simultaneously, as well as improve your ability to do all four activities individually. This is the essence of kriya, the first stage of Hatha Yoga. This idea is also the key to understanding Qigong, internal martial arts, and why elite athletes are so good at what they do.
