Klaas-Jan Tielrooij is leading the Ultrafast Dynamics in Nanoscale Systems group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Barcelona, Spain. His research interests are in the field of ultrafast dynamics, optoelectronics, nonlinear optics and light-matter interaction. His current research focuses on heat and charge transport in nanoscale material systems, in particular 2D materials. He was visiting professor in Mainz, Germany, between 2018 and 2020, and research fellow at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Spain. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for which he received the FOM Physics Thesis Prize 2011. He was awarded several grants and fellowships, including an ERC Starting Grant in 2018. ---------- Heat transport is becoming increasingly important within the Research Line in Sustainable Energy Conversion and Storage Systems (RL1 at ICMAB). Besides the fundamental scientific interest, learning how to modulate the heat flow has important applications in conventional electronics (where heat dissipation at the nanoscale is a major issue) or in the design of efficient thermoelectric materials (where materials with low thermal conductivities must be engineered). The goal of the Severo Ochoa Workshop on Phononics and Thermal Transport (SOPHOT2021) is showcasing some of the most promising achievements in the field, promoting collaborations and bringing together both experimentalists and theoreticians working on these exciting topics. We hope you can attend and explore the future research in this field. https://sophot2021.icmab.es/ https://icmab.es/
