Welcome to the journey! 👋 I'm Matt, a 35-year-old busy dad, and after 15 years of inconsistent training and little progress, I'm finally serious about getting stronger and losing that skinny fat look. My first big goal? To bench press 225 lbs! This VLOG documents the start of my strength training journey as I try to hit a 225 lb calculated 1RM (either 200 lbs for 5 reps or 180 lbs for 10 reps). In this first push day workout, I hit the flat bench for 4 sets of 135 lbs and some bodyweight dips. To start, I'm following a simple push/pull/legs split with intensity inspired by influencers like Geoffrey Verity Schofield, Fazlifts, Alex Leonidis, and Basement Bodybuilding. The focus is on training hard and intelligently with moderate volume to finally break through a long-standing plateau. I'm starting at a calculated 1RM of 180 lbs (same as my body weight) and about 20% body fat 😬.
