Welcome to the final Lung Cancer Living Room episode of 2024! In this special “Holiday and Year of HOPE Celebration,” GO2 for Lung Cancer’s Chief Patient Officer, Danielle Hicks, takes us through the organization’s major accomplishments in 2024. We also hear from members of our Living Room community—patients, survivors, and caregivers—who open up about their personal journeys and reflect on what hope means to them. Highlights from 2024 Major Advocacy Wins The Women in Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act passed through the House of Representatives—one step closer to becoming law. Voices Summit 2024 saw 38 states represented, resulting in 150 Capitol Hill meetings in a single day. Increased federal funding for lung cancer research, now totaling over $245 million since 2008. Continued efforts to expand lung cancer screening eligibility to an additional 5 million people. Community & Events Overall event revenue increased by 20%, reflecting a powerful surge in community engagement. The Shine a Light program reached all 50 states (plus D.C. and even Ireland!) to raise awareness and honor those affected by lung cancer. Our 5K series saw record participation, and the Endurance Program broke new fundraising records at the 2024 New York City Marathon. Healthcare Delivery & Research A 23% growth in our Center of Excellence Network, now at more than 900 facilities nationwide. Ongoing studies like SPARK and INHERIT to tackle genetic risk factors, early markers of disease, and small cell lung cancer. Expanding partnerships to test in-house next-generation sequencing at community cancer centers. Exciting enhancements to the Lung Cancer Registry, allowing participants to benchmark their data with de-identified, aggregated information from other patients. Health Equity Initiatives Educated 300+ individuals in Black communities about lung cancer screening and navigation. Trained over 100 HBCU students in lung cancer navigation. Ongoing work to identify and reduce treatment disparities via geospatial tools. Patient Support & Education Launch of Mind Over Matter, a new five-week coping skills program. Introduction of seven new or updated patient-education publications, now totaling more than 40 resources available in multiple languages. First-ever in-person “Gathering Hope,” plus numerous Living Room events around the country and internationally. The Heart of the Living Room This episode ends with an “around the room” conversation, where longtime survivors, newer patients, and dedicated caregivers share how they found hope and community through GO2 for Lung Cancer. Their stories highlight how far we’ve come in diagnosing, treating, and living with lung cancer—and underscore the importance of having a supportive network. Thank You A big thank you to everyone—our dedicated volunteers, staff, advocates, and the incredible survivors and caregivers who have been part of our Living Room this year.
