Carter Mullen-Carey tells the story of Garfias Spring and Stream in the South Pasadena Section of the Arroyo Seco, a tributary of the Arroyo Seco, which in turn is a tributary of the Los Angeles River. The beloved wetlands area where the Garfias stream meets the Arroyo is known as the San Pascual site. A key part is located in San Pascual Park, a Los Angeles city part. The site is threatened by Pasadena and South Pasadena's plans for the "Arroyo Seco Water Reuse Project." The two cities intend to bulldoze the wetlands and redo the area to provide water to a golf course in South Pasadena.
